collective noun agreement
A collective noun is a noun that describes a group of people. When using a pronoun for. a collective noun, you must decide whether the group is working as a collective whole (singular) or as individuals within the group (plural).
The class ate their lunch. (You use a plural pronoun, because each member of the class is eating something different)
The class took its test. (You use a singular pronoun, because everyone in the class is taking the same test.)
