appositives
Appositives
An appositive is an extra, nonessential, phrase that gives extra information to the sentence. If the appositive is adding to the subject, then you use the normative case pronoun. If the appositive is adding extra information to the verb, then you use the objective case pronoun.
Example:
The boys, Taylor and he, are going to the fair. (In this case, he is describing the subject, therefore uses a nominative pronoun)
Exercise 1
Select the correct pronoun in the parentheses
1) The singers, Kaylee and (I/me), were practicing backstage.
2) The fans cheered for the twins, Kara and (him/he).
3) Everyone was shocked when the witches, Myka and (she/her), appeared on stage.
4) The bakers, Kayla and (she/her), sold baked goods during intermission.
5) One spectator said that the trees, Michael and (he/him), were the best.
Exercise 2
Select the correct personal pronoun from the parentheses in the paragraph.
1The girls, McKayla and (she/her), were playing in their neighborhood. 2Two twins, Michael and (he/him), came out to play with them. The girls did not want to share their toys. 3The twins parents, Dana and (he/him), came out to try to convince the girls to play with them. The girls would not listen to the parents. 4They said that they wanted to play with other girls, such as Mycka, Anna, and (she/her). 5Eventually the other girls came out and played with the them. They brought another set of boys with them, Austin and (he/him).
